The board of governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, including president David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson, have called for an emergency phone call about the Will Smith incident, which happened during Sunday’s 94th Academy Awards, according to a Hollywood reporter.
Early speculation is that the Academy will conduct a thorough review of the incident in which Smith struck actor Chris Rock in the face after Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
Smith’s accreditation is expected to be suspended, as many Academy members are demanding, but not the revocation of his best actor Oscar, as others believe.
The Academy may have to wait until the board’s next full meeting. Every postmortem of the show and the review of appropriate rule changes.
